Week 12 is here! Whether you’re one game out of the current playoff picture or you’ve locked up your spot and looking to solidify your team for the next 1-2 weeks as we prepare for the fantasy playoffs, we’ve got your back as you get set to scan the waiver wire.
I feel this week’s waiver wire may be one of the worst of the season (or the best because we didn’t lose anyone of any significance!). But it seems as if there is always at least one waiver gem out there every week, so let’s find that guy as we head into Week 12.
Waivers are based on CBS where I usually go at 60%, but I am going to let it slide this week as we are looking for anyone who is in all leagues.
Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins (76% owned)
I am not ready to give up on Tua, but he played like crap Sunday afternoon going 11/20 for 83 yards and a touchdown. It wasn’t like he marched down the field on that touchdown either, the defense picked it off and took it to the 3-yard line. Tua was over throwing receivers and holding the ball too long, bu I am putting him back in the lineup for week 12 in what should be a get-right game against the New York Jets.
Taysom Hill, QB, New Orleans Saints (64% owned)
All week long we were thinking it was going to be Jameis Winston starting for the New Orleans Saints, but that wasn’t what was told to us Friday afternoon. Sean Payton came out and said that Taysom Hill would be starting Sunday afternoon against the Atlanta Falcons. I was laughing because I thought Jameis didn’t do bad in relief of Brees in week 10. To my surprise, Hill started and lasted the whole game going 18/23 for 233 yards and no passing touchdowns, but rushed 10 times for 51 yards and two touchdowns (and one fumble lost) to finish with over 24 fantasy points. He should be viewed as a QB1 going forward with Drew Brees being put on IR for at least the next couple of weeks. His next two games are against Denver and again against Atlanta.
Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants (30% owned)
You may question this addition, but if you’re really struggling at the quarterback position and are pushing for that final playoff spot, take a look at Daniel Jones. He gets Cincinnati, Seattle and Arizona the next three weeks, followed by Cleveland in week 15, and if he’s tearing it up during this stretch of games, you might want to continue with the hot streak. He’s worth a pick up.
Carlos Hyde, RB, Seattle Seahawks (48% owned)
This is a high-end handcuff I want to own anywhere I can, and while the talk is that Chris Carson will be back this week, who knows how true that is and what the odds are of him re-injuring himself. Get him even if you don’t own Carson.
James White, RB, New England Patriots (46% owned)
The game of roulette continues this year in the Patriot’s backfield, but luckily we’ve been able to rely on Damien Harris as he continues to perform as the lead back. Rex Burkhead went down with a knee injury and is expected to miss “significant” time. Insert James White as while he didn’t do much in the rushing game (5/19), he led the team in targets last week with nine, finishing with six receptions for 64 yards. This backfield is starting to perform, and with Burkhead out, White should be added in all PPR leagues.
Gus Edwards, RB, Baltimore Ravens (42% owned)
Both Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins were added the the COVID-19 list for testing positive for the virus. All aboard the Gus Bus as the Baltimore Ravens are the top rushing team in the league,
Michael Pittman Jr, WR, Indianapolis Colts (45% owned)
This is my top priority for week 12 as Pittman finished 3/3 for 66 yards and a touchdown. The rookie is really starting to stand out from the rest of the Indianapolis Colts.
Jalen Reagor, WR, Philadelphia Eagles (36% owned)
I am not giving up on Jalen Reagor. Not yet. He was third in targets but was second on the team in catches (4) and yards (52). The breakout is coming, I can feel it. I hope it’s this week against the Seahawks as they are the worst pass defense (yet, getting better?) in the league. He could have one of those long D.K. Metcalf kind of targets and come onto the radar. Get him before he’s gone.
Russell Gage (15% owned)/ Olamide Zeccheaus (1% owned)
We don’t know the true status of Julio Jones for week 12 other than being listed as a game-time decision. Calvin Ridley can’t do it on his own, so both of these receiver need to step it up. Your guess is as good as mine, but I’m willing to roll with Gage as long as Julio is out.
Damiere Byrd, WR, New England Patriots (2% owned)
A week when we expect Jakobi Meyers to continue his hot streak turns into Byrd being the standout with six catches for 132 yards and a touchdown. He’s worth an add in deep leagues.
Robert Tonyan, TE, Green Bay Packers (58% owned)
The tight end position outside of both Travis Kelce and Darren Waller is, well…. trash. If you have one of those two, you’re happy. Outside of that you are setting your lineup with a tight end and hoping for 50 yards and a touchdown. The Packers face a Chicago Bears defense who is in the bottom 10 of the rankings against the tight end position, so Aaron Rodgers should continue to look for Tonyan in week 12.
