Finally! NFL Preseason is upon us! The Hall of Fame game is tonight and football is back upon us until February.
I am going to be doing a draft stock watch article from here on through the end of the preseason. I intend to help you guys out as you head to your drafts. This is going to be who I am high on and who I am low on. If I miss anyone, feel free to comment below and we can discuss!
Players I am buying
Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts
He’s back in pads and throwing the ball! Luck went 19-for-22 including 12-for-14 in 11-on-11 action this past Sunday at training camp. He also showed good arm strength connecting with T.Y. Hilton on a deep ball. I see Luck trending up, and at his current 8th-round average draft position, I will take that all day because his ADP is only going up from here.
T.Y Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Read above. If all the news stays positive on Luck, Hilton is also a steal as a WR1 that is currently going in the third round.
Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos
Sanders is meshing well with Case Keenum right now in camp and recently connected on a deep touchdown. I’ll be aiming for Sanders at his current ADP in the late sixth round.
Rex Burkhead, RB, New England Patriots
We are all hearing about how rookie running back Sony Michel put the ball on the ground on the first day of training camp. A Bill Belichick no-no. Burkhead is the back you want in this backfield, and get him now if you can as a late sixth/early seventh rounder.
Derrius Guice, RB, Washington Redskins
This guy has character issues? I have not seen anything at all. He’s getting praised for how he is in the meeting room, on the field and also off the field. But now I am really high on him as news surfaced that Chris Thompson likely won’t be fully recovered from his broken fibula until November. Guice is currently going in the mid-third round, and for someone who is a RB2 with good upside, I will be taking him there.
Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
He has been activated off the PUP-list, he is a touchdown machine, and if you are looking for a high-end TE2, Eifert is your man. As a tight end with top-five potential who is currently going at the end of the 10th round, sign me up.
Players I am Selling
LeSean McCoy, RB, Buffalo Bills
We have not heard anything else since the picture and accusations against him were posted on social media. McCoy has a boat load of carries under his belt and is also a 30-year-old back on a horrible Bills team. I’m passing at his end of round two ADP.
Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers
Losing offensive lineman Daryl Williams with a torn MCL and dislocated kneecap is a huge blow to this offensive line. He should be out for most – if not all – of the year, hurting McCaffrey’s outlook as a between-the-tackles running back. Going in the middle of the second round is a little too high for me and I think you should let him be someone else’s headache at the moment.
Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
The hype is getting to be too much, and did you know that he has thrown seven interceptions through six practices? Sure it might be just the growing pains he’s going through but his ninth-round ADP is too rich for my blood.
Jerick McKinnon, RB, San Francisco 49ers
You’re hearing he’s getting passes thrown to him left and right and doing everything that’s expected out of him. But a second-round ADP for a running back who has never been more than a waiver-wire wonder as your RB1, maybe RB2? No thank you. Flex at best.
Sony Michel, RB, New England Patriots
Read above about Burkhead. Belichick doesn’t care where you’re drafted, he’s not going to put up with a player turning over the ball. As a mid-fourth round pick, I’ll pass and take Burkhead a few rounds later.
Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks
I am a huge fan of Baldwin with Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson gone. But with Baldwin going down with a knee injury that could force him to miss most if not all the preseason, it makes me nervous drafting him at the end of the second round. If he falls to the third or fourth round though, I’m buying.
